If you want to skip the cookie and go straight for the chips – CVS and Kmart have chocolate chips in the bag.
And finally, you can have your cookie and eat it too – here’s Weight Watcher’s mini chocolate cookie recipe:
2 Tbsp salted butter, softened
2 tsp canola oil
1/2 cup(s) packed brown sugar, dark-variety
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp table salt
1 large egg white(s)
3/4 cup(s) all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
3 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips, about 1/2 cup
Preheat oven to 375ºF.
In a medium bowl, cream together butter, oil and sugar. Add vanilla, salt and egg white; mix thoroughly to combine.
In a small bowl, mix together flour and baking soda; stir into batter. Add chocolate chips to batter; stir to distribute evenly throughout.
Drop 48 half-teaspoons of dough onto one or two large nonstick baking sheets, leaving a small amount of space between each cookie. Bake cookies until golden around edges, about 4 to 6 minutes; cool on a wire rack. Yields 1 cookie per serving.
GNC has a big selection of health products, vitamin supplements, herbal supplements, teas and body care. We recently stepped into the store to see what GNC could suggest for Mother’s Day. Manager Frans put together two great packages of ideas. The first idea was a personal care set: GNC gels, lotions and moisturizers for starters for beauty from the outside and be-beautiful multivitamins and supplements- formulated just for mom.
Manager Frans also pulled out some shakes and smoothies and put together a second package of ready-to-drink lean shakes, a container of smoothie supplement mix formulated for women, and a blender bottle.
Either way, mom will thank you for thinking about her health and well being.
GNC is located at 277 North McDowell (between Kmart and CVS). Phone: (707) 763-4772
If you want to forget all your other troubles, wear too tight shoes. The Houghton Line, November 1965
The fun begins at The Foot Doctor from the moment you “set foot” into her offices and clinic at The Plaza North Shopping Center. For starters, instead of the ubiquitous ding dong sound of the door opening, a plastic Dalmatian puppy seated on the floor barks to announce your arrival. The warm and welcoming waiting room is decorated with paintings, shoe and foot memorabilia, family photos and – best of all – a big bowl of candy (that’s always kept full!). You sit back into one of the white wicker chairs with the striped blue cushions and feel like you’re at home. This is exactly the atmosphere that Dr. Rochelle Bomar DPM strives for and illustrates how she treats her patients – like family.“I laugh with my patients and sometimes I cry with them.” She says, “My patients are my extended family – I feel that way about them and I am continually blessed by my patients.”
Dr. Bomar’s career in podiatry started with her lifelong interest in medicine. While raising their four sons, she struck a deal with her late husband John. She would put him through art school if he would put her through college. They stuck to their word. John’s beautiful gold hued paintings now hang in the office and treatment rooms and in 1995, Dr. Bomar graduated from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. The Bomar sons are all grown now, and their photos and photos of their spouses and children are an integral part of the office and now of the lives of her patients, too. “My patients get mad if I don’t update the pictures!” Dr, Bomar laughs.
Dr Bomar’s practice includes going to local nursing homes and tending to resident nail and foot problems, as well as regular patient checkups and continuing care at her office. Although Dr. Bomar does perform surgery, she characterizes herself as a conservative care physician who only uses surgery as a last resort. Since 2001, Dr. Bomar has been the Medical Director of the Ethics Department of Petaluma Valley Hospital and was recently recognized by the hospital for her 11 years of service. She considers it an honor to work with local families as they struggle with their end of life challenges.
The Bomar family have been proud residents of Petaluma since 1990. The family had been passing through town and stopped for coffee at a Lakeville restaurant. They decided at that moment that Petaluma was where they were going to settle and they have been an integral part of the community ever since.
We asked Dr. Bomar what her one piece of advice would be. Her answer: “Listen to your feet. They’ll let you know if you’re in trouble.”
The Foot Doctor is located at 231 N. McDowell Boulevard, Suite D (as in “Doctor”) in The Plaza North Shopping Center. Dr. Bomar’s phone number is (707) 763-4343
Hunan Village is hands down Petaluma’s best Chinese restaurant.
Location, location, location – and with Hunan Village sitting right off N. McDowell and next door to CVS, you can’t get more convenient than that. Add in lots of parking for quick dining or to grab some takeout in a hurry and you are already ahead of the curve.
And did we mention Hunan Village’s spacious, clean, comfortable dining room? Nicely decorated with Asian art and artifacts – there is enough room for a big family style meal and intimate enough for a meal for just two. Formal enough for a business meal and casual enough to come in “as you are”.
The food is excellent and Hunan’s many postive Yelp reviews attest to the great cooking. Fresh ingredients, great recipes and an experienced staff make for a great dining experience.
Where you are a take out or dine in fan – Hunan makes it happen. Hunan Village is located at 295 North McDowell Boulevard (by CVS) Ph0ne: (707) 763-7156.
We are fortunate enough to have former Oakland Raider Cliff Branch at The Plaza North Kmart raising money for March of Dimes.
Branch spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, winning three Super Bowl rings in Super Bowl XI, Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII. Branch caught 3 passes for 20 yards in Super Bowl XI, 5 passes for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns in Super Bowl XV, and 6 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl XVIII.
Cliff was voted a First team All-Pro in four consecutive seasons (1974–1977) and had 46 receptions in 1976 for 1,111 yards and 12 TDs, averaging 24.2 yards per catch. During this time, Branch was also named to four consecutive Pro Bowls from 1974–1977. In 1974, Branch led the National Football League in both receiving yards (1,092) and receiving touchdowns (13). During the 1983 season, Branch set the Raiders franchise record for the longest TD reception (99 yards), on a pass from Jim Plunkett.
Branch finished his 14 NFL seasons with 501 receptions for 8,685 yards and 67 touchdowns. He also rushed for 70 yards and returned 9 kickoffs for 191 yards.
Drop by to say Hi.
